Waytemore Castle, Bishops Stortford was originally a motte and bailey castle, likely built around 1070 by the Bishop of London. It was an important early Norman castle and remained in use for over five centuries. It is now only a mound with a few remaining bits of wall, known locally as the Castle Mound.

Truth be told, this collage is the first suggestion of a headless ghost in Bishops Stortford- but perhaps he was journeying to visit the well documented Grey Lady ghost just a little further up the hill.
