Legendary Essex note: This Irish folklore figure (spelt leipreachán in Ireland – with many regional variations), is usually depicted as a diminutive, solitary sprite or fairy who cobbles shoes and enjoys a prank, often depicted with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and the ability to bestow wishes. He is not seen as wholly good or evil. His buckled shoes and green coat – but the costume is depicted differently in different regions of Ireland.
