Marla’s art shows Tom Hickathrift and his shield made from a cartwheel fighting the giant, a story which is immortalized in the plaster pargenting of the Old Sun Inn in Saffron Walden that this workshop was held in.
Tom Hickathrift was the legendary giant of the Marshland between the East Anglian towns of Kings Lynn and Wisbech and fought an ogre called The Smeeth, amongst other foes. Source : hickathrift.co.uk
