The Grey Lady is a ghost in Bishops Stortford that haunts the George Hotel and the tunnels under Stortford.
Legendary Essex Note: As ex pupils of St Mary’s in Bishops Stortford we were told that the Grey Lady also haunted the old school building (this may have been to deter us sneaking into parts of building we weren’t allowed! and rumour at school was that she was a Nun. Other sources say she is the ghost of a woman named Sarah murdered by the squires son in either the George Hotel or the Boars Head (these pubs are on the same road Windhill, separated by the Police Station and a couple of shops) and numerous sightings of her in these locations are reported.
