The Green Man is frequently found in churches, cathedrals, and other buildings as a carved or sculpted image. In folklore he is sometimes called Jack o’ the Green, Jack-in-the-Green, or the King of the May. His leafy form embodies the growth and renewal of spring and the abundance of the earth. The Green Man is a central figure in modern and ancient pagan traditions and is often incorporated into rituals and ceremonies, like the Green Men (and Women) who attend at the Thaxted Morris Festival.
