This beautiful snail by graphic designer and illustrator Sarah says ‘The service of the lowly snail were often sought by the lovelorn maidens of Essex when they wanted to learn their marital chances. The knowledge could only be obtained on one day, May 20th. On that day the snail had to be placed on a piece of slate and left alone. It would then trace the initials of a future lover with a silvery flourish. It’s ability to prophecy was as inexplicable as it’s power to spell.
