‘Hot Cross Buns!
Hot Cross Buns!
One a penny
Two a Penny
Hot Cross Buns!
Give them to your daughters,
Give them to your sons,
One a Penny Two a Penny
Hot Cross Buns!
Hot Cross Buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday, the start of the growing year . It used to be believed any buns left would remain fresh as they were marked by a holy cross, but lets be honest when is a hot cross bun ever left? This rhyme is one we used to do skipping to – with two friends hold the rope and a third jumping in. In my town of Saffron Walden, communal skipping was also a traditional Good Friday Custom – I think we should bring this one back!
