A chant often sung on Plough Monday in villages in Essex. A money raising celebration used by medieval ancestors to signify the start of the agricultural year. It is likely that the young men of the town dragged a decorated plough from door to door of the richest households in the parish collecting money. If they didn’t hand over money a trick would have been played on the unlucky household.
